This presentation will be similar to the Passive House Canada (PHC) Pulse talk, with the addition of cost analysis for the electric preheat option. It will include on-site monitoring results and evaluate earth tubes against electric resistance heat. Using measured energy use and typical electricity rates, the presentation will look at annual operating costs and a simple payback to understand how many years it takes for the earth tube system to become cost-effective. The presentation will also highlight the free cooling aspect of earth tubes, which may be where they provide the most value.
