Program Overview

An often overlooked and important parameter of successful energy efficiency and decarbonization projects is the humans involved. Specifically, the actions of people can lead to the success or failure of a project.

This two-day training program is intended for participants who want to create an engagement strategy incorporating the various aspects of behavioural and holistic organizational management. In this training, you will put together a plan to change behaviours while engaging people – either internally (staff, operations, teams) or externally (tenants, clients, occupants).

The first training day is focused on the practice of influencing and modifying individual and collective behaviours to promote more sustainable practices. It begins with an outline of why and how individual actions and choices play a significant role in influencing energy consumption and environmental impact. On the second day, participants put their understanding of these concepts to the test and create their own engagement campaigns.

If you are involved in designing, creating or implementing an engagement plan, this course is for you!

In this course, you will learn to:

  • Establish realistic goals for energy engagement strategies.
  • Assess the organizational proficiencies as they relate to achieving real energy reduction.
  • Examine the culture of organizations and design interventions in harmony with the given culture.
  • Use a structured approach to identifying and selecting behaviours to influence based on impacts, barriers and benefits.
  • Identify and articulate energy and non-energy benefits from effective engagement.
  • Apply the systematic six step approach to designing engagement strategies.
  • Evaluate energy engagement strategies.

This course is ideal for:

  • Energy managers/champions/leaders or coordinators
