Alberta Ecotrust Foundation and Audette have created desktop retrofit plans for nearly 8,000 buildings across Alberta — primarily in Edmonton and Calgary — and compiled them into an interactive mapping tool. These complimentary plans are available to Alberta building owners and managers through our free Alberta Ecotrust Retrofit Accelerator program.
What is a desktop retrofit plan?
A desktop retrofit plan provides a clear roadmap for building upgrades. It considers the building as a whole and outlines which retrofits should be prioritized, the recommended order of implementation, and the estimated capital costs and potential savings. Proactive retrofit planning can extend a building’s lifespan, enhance tenant comfort, modernize building systems, support long-term asset value, and reduce carbon emissions.
Watch the webinar from October 2025 to learn how to access your complimentary retrofit plan and discover how this data can guide decisions for building owners, managers, and municipalities. The session will include a walkthrough of the interactive retrofit map, key insights from Alberta’s building data, a sample desktop retrofit plan and guidance on using plans for portfolio prioritization and capital planning.

About the mapping tool
These buildings have been analyzed using Audette’s physics-based modelling platform, which was developed by building scientists and trained on more than 800,000 unique energy model simulations. Modelled building types include existing multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs), long-term care facilities, offices, retail buildings, hotels, restaurants, warehouses, and schools.
