Using Alberta-based Part 9 residential case studies, this session explores low embodied carbon building assemblies that remain cost-effective compared to industry standards. Attendees will learn how to balance building science and resiliency with decarbonization goals. Using the MCE2 software extension for Hot2000, we quantify the “cradle-to-gate” emissions of specific assemblies and full-scale projects. We will also discuss the practical trade-offs between fire resistance, wind loads, and durability, providing clear justifications for material selection in high-performance builds.
