SUMMARY:Solar-Ready Design : Lethbridge
DESCRIPTION:Alberta Ecotrust Foundation | ENBIX with support from the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley is offering a new ‘Solar-Ready Design’ workshop for builders.  This workshop was developed with contributions from Solar Alberta and the Local Energy Efficiency Partnership (LEEP) program from NRCAN.    \nThis workshop explores how to optimize new construction for the integration of solar photovoltaic (PV). Solar PV generates electricity directly from the sun. Topics covered include major solar trends in Alberta\, using the LEEP Solar PV guide\, best practices and solar case studies.    \nSolar can add value to your next build and set your designs apart.  Great solar projects add lasting value to owners and occupants.    \nThis session is intended for builders\, designers\, developers\, and trades.  It will also be useful for municipal officials\, building codes officers\, architects\, and consultants.   While much of the content is built around residential examples\, most of the material is applicable to commercial developments.  \n  \nLOCATION CHANGE! This will now be held at the BILD Lethbridge Board Room  \nAgenda \n8:30 AM – 9:00 AM Registration \n9:00 AM – 11:00 AM Presentation \n11:00 am – Noon Discussion & Questions \nCoffee and light refreshment will be provided. \nTickets are $10.  If cost is a barrier to participate please email j.henke@albertaecotrust.com. \n

SUMMARY:Life Cycle Assessments: Canmore Workshop
DESCRIPTION:We are working with the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley and Bow Valley Builders & Developers Association (BOWDA) to present “Life Cycle Assessments: An introduction to embodied carbon”.  This in-person workshop will introduce builders to the basics of life cycle assessments and embodied carbon.  Topics covered will include:  \n\nOperational versus embodied emissions\nWhat are Environmental Product Declarations (EPDS)\nHow ‘massing’ affects life cycle assessments (LCAs)\nWhat the different scopes of an LCA are\nAvailable tools to help develop LCAs\nWhat is happening in Canada today (regulatory landscape)\n\nAs Alberta grows\, new construction and the renewal of buildings drive emissions associated with the use of building materials.  These emissions can be significant.  Understanding embodied carbon will offer insight into managing and reducing these impacts.   \nThis workshop is perfect for builders\, developers\, owners\, architects\, engineers\, consultants\, suppliers\, building officials\, energy advisors and  and other professionals in the building\, construction and renovation industry in Alberta. \nThe workshop will include breakfast.  Tickets are $15.   Please note that if cost is a barrier please contact Joe Henke – j.henke@albertaecotrust.com. \n  \nAgenda \n\n8:30 – Registration and Breakfast\n9:00 – Presentation\n11:00 – Questions & Discussion\nNoon – close out\n\nThe workshop will be held in room 115 of the Canmore Recreation Center.  Parking is free. \nPlease reach out to j.henke@albertaecotrust.com for any questions.
